Project Description

"Hearables for All"

Eversound recently participated in “Hearables for All”, a 12-month exploratory program, including 730 users, and launched by the Front Porch Center for Innovation and Wellbeing (FPCIW). The program involved evaluating the next generation of wearable devices for older adults with hearing loss and analyzing how the various devices impacted health and social engagement.

Eversound’s Powerful Impacts

While other technologies evaluated in the study resulted in mixed overall satisfaction, Eversound provided exceptional results. The study confirmed that Eversound would be a valuable asset to the hearing loss community in promoting participation, engagement, community-building activities, and overall health and wellbeing.

Survey data, anecdotal evidence, and interviews indicate strong and salient outcomes among residents and care staff, particularly in memory care neighborhoods. Care staff reported a 48% increase in observed mood and behavior in care centers (skilled nursing) and a 64% mood/behavior improvement in memory care. Additionally, Eversound allowed residents to participate in events remotely due to its long-range technology.

Note: While the study reported minor technical issues when using Evesound, our team continues to improve the Eversound technology.

Addressing Health and Wellness Challenges

Auditory health is highly correlated with physical and mental health across all levels of care. More and more evidence confirms the link between hearing loss and negative health outcomes including dementia, social isolation, and depression. In an increased effort to find viable solutions to hearing impairments, Front Porch asked Eversound to participate in their "Hearables for All" program.

Implementing Eversound in group activities

Eversound was deployed across all levels of care, including residents in independent and assisted living facilities and memory care neighborhoods. Participants ranged in age from 61 to 95 and had various degrees of hearing loss and technology ability. Eversound was incorporated into various group activities and events, including:

  • Bingo games, bus tours, presentations, movie nights, and town hall meetings
  • It’s Never Too Late (iN2L), an interactive touch-screen engagement system for seniors
  • Listening to music

We had a successful bingo activity this afternoon thanks to Eversound and iN2L. Some residents sat outside after lunch while housekeeping was cleaning the clubroom. The residents were able to play bingo and enjoy some sunshine at the same time."
